Vaiśampāyana said: Summoning his splendid weapons, Pāṇḍava Bībhatsu, repulsed the shower of rain with a shower of arrows.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: अपने शानदार हथियारों को बुलाते हुए, पांडव बीभत्सु ने बाणों की बौछार से बारिश की बौछार को विफल कर दिया।
Pāṇḍava covered every side of Khāṇḍava with his arrows and drove away that rain from that forest.
पांडव ने अपने बाणों से खाण्डव के चारों ओर को ढक दिया और उस वर्षा को उस वन से दूर भगा दिया।

Takṣaka, the immensely powerful king of the serpents, wasn't in the flaming forest then. He had gone to Kurukṣetra.
नागों का अत्यंत शक्तिशाली राजा तक्षक उस समय धधकते जंगल में नहीं था। वह कुरूक्षेत्र गये थे।
But Takṣaka's powerful son Aśvasena was there. He made great efforts to escape from the fire.
लेकिन तक्षक का शक्तिशाली पुत्र अश्वसेन वहां था। उसने आग से बचने का बहुत प्रयास किया।

न शशाक विनिर्गन्तुं कौन्तेयशरपीडितः मोक्षयामास तं माता निगीर्य भुजगात्मजा
However, oppressed by Kaunteya's arrows, he didn't succeed in getting out. But his mother, daughter of the serpents, tried to save him.
हालाँकि, कौन्तेय के बाणों से पीड़ित होकर, वह बाहर निकलने में सफल नहीं हुआ। लेकिन उसकी माँ, साँपों की बेटी, ने उसे बचाने की कोशिश की।
She first swallowed his head. Then she began to swallow his tail and in her haste to save her son, the serpent lady rose up.
उसने सबसे पहले उसका सिर निगल लिया। फिर वह उसकी पूँछ को निगलने लगी और अपने बेटे को बचाने की जल्दबाजी में सर्प महिला ऊपर उठ गई।
When Pāṇḍava saw this, he sliced off her head with a sharp arrow. The lord of the gods saw this.
जब पांडव ने यह देखा तो उन्होंने एक तीक्ष्ण बाण से उसका सिर काट दिया। देवताओं के स्वामी ने यह देखा।
Acting as saviour, the wielder of the vajra unleashed a shower of rain on Pāṇḍava and when this dazed him, Aśvasena instantly escaped.
रक्षक के रूप में कार्य करते हुए, वज्र के धारक ने पांडव पर बारिश की बौछार कर दी और जब इससे वह चकित हो गए, तो अश्वसेन तुरंत भाग निकले।

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! On seeing this terrible power of māyā and having been deprived by the serpent, he cut down all the serpents into two and three pieces.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! माया की इस भयानक शक्ति को देखकर और नाग द्वारा वंचित किये जाने पर, उन्होंने सभी नागों को दो और तीन टुकड़ों में काट दिया।
Angrily, Bībhatsu cursed the serpent that had escaped and so did the fire and Vāsudeva, to the effect that he would never attain fame.
गुस्से में बिभात्सु ने भाग निकले सांप को और अग्नि तथा वासुदेव को श्राप दिया कि उसे कभी भी प्रसिद्धि नहीं मिलेगी।
Then Jiṣṇu remembered the deception that had been played on him. He was angered and seeking to fight with the thousand-eyed one, covered the sky with his sharp arrows.
तब जिष्णु को अपने साथ हुए धोखे की याद आई। वह क्रोधित हो गया और हजार आंखों वाले से युद्ध करने की कोशिश कर रहा था, उसने अपने तीखे बाणों से आकाश को ढक दिया।
On seeing Phālguna's wrath, the king of the gods unleashed his own blazing missile and it flashed across the entire sky.
फाल्गुन के क्रोध को देखकर, देवताओं के राजा ने अपनी धधकती मिसाइल छोड़ी और वह पूरे आकाश में चमक गई।
Then winds with terrible roars churned all the oceans. Masses of clouds, mingled with torrents of rain, were created.
तब भयानक गर्जना वाली पवनों ने समस्त महासागरों को मथ डाला। मूसलाधार बारिश के साथ मिलकर बादलों का समूह निर्मित हुआ।
To counter them, Arjuna unleashed his own supreme weapon. The one who had the knowledge used a mantra to invoke the vāyavya weapon.
उनका मुकाबला करने के लिए, अर्जुन ने अपना सर्वोच्च हथियार चलाया। जिसके पास ज्ञान था उसने वायव्य हथियार का आह्वान करने के लिए एक मंत्र का उपयोग किया।
In an instant, it destroyed the energy and might of Indra's clouds, rain and thunder. The clouds dried, the lightning died and the dark sky was pacified.
एक पल में, इसने इंद्र के बादलों, बारिश और गरज की ऊर्जा और शक्ति को नष्ट कर दिया। बादल सूख गये, बिजली बुझ गयी और अँधेरा आकाश शान्त हो गया।
In an instant the sky became calm and quiet dust, and the sun in nature in nature, the good wind. Cool and pleasant winds began to blow and the sun's orbit returned to normal.
एक पल में आकाश शांत और शांत धूल में बदल गया, और प्रकृति में सूरज, अच्छी हवा। ठंडी और सुखद हवाएँ चलने लगीं और सूर्य की कक्षा सामान्य हो गई।
Delighted that there was no opposition any more and with the many offerings being made, the fire blazed up again and filled the world with its roar.
ख़ुशी हुई कि अब कोई विरोध नहीं हुआ और बहुत सारी भेंटें चढ़ाए जाने के साथ, आग फिर से भड़क उठी और दुनिया को अपनी गर्जना से भर दिया।
On seeing that the fire was protected by the two Kṛṣṇās, many feathered beings of the Suparṇa lineage, rose up into the sky,
यह देखकर कि अग्नि दोनों कृष्णों द्वारा संरक्षित थी, सुपर्ण वंश के कई पंखधारी प्राणी आकाश में उठ गए,
including Gāruḍa, eager to attack the warriors Kṛṣṇā and Pāṇḍava with their wings, beaks and claws, as tough as the vajra.
गरुड़ सहित, अपने वज्र जैसे कठोर पंखों, चोंचों और पंजों से योद्धाओं कृष्ण और पांडव पर हमला करने के लिए उत्सुक थे।
Many serpents also descended near Pāṇḍava, spewing terrible and flaming venom from their mouths.
पांडवों के पास भी बहुत-से नाग अपने मुखों से भयंकर और ज्वलनशील विष उगलते हुए आये।
As soon as he saw these sky-dwelling creatures, Pārtha angrily cut them down with his arrows. Benumbed, their bodies fell into the flaming fire.
जैसे ही पार्थ ने उन आकाशवासी प्राणियों को देखा, क्रोधपूर्वक उन्हें अपने बाणों से काट डाला। उनके शरीर स्तब्ध होकर धधकती आग में गिर गये।
At that, the gods, the gāndharva-s, the yakṣa-s, the rākṣasa-s and the serpents rose up, uttering loud roars and desiring to fight.
उस समय देवता, गन्धर्व, यक्ष, राक्षस और नाग बड़े जोर से गर्जना करते हुए और युद्ध की इच्छा से उठ खड़े हुए।
They were armed with iron clubs, cakra-s and bhuśuṇḍī-s, with lightning in them. They were intent on killing Kṛṣṇā and Pārtha, their great energy benumbed by their anger.
वे लोहे की लाठियों, चक्रों और भुशुण्डियों से सुसज्जित थे, जिनमें बिजली भी थी। वे कृष्ण और पार्थ को मारने पर आमादा थे, उनकी महान शक्ति उनके क्रोध से स्तब्ध हो गयी थी।

Though they unleashed a fearful shower of weapons, Bībhatsu churned their upper limbs with his sharp arrows.
यद्यपि उन्होंने हथियारों की भयानक वर्षा की, बिभत्सु ने अपने तीखे बाणों से उनके ऊपरी अंगों को मथ डाला।
The immensely energetic Kṛṣṇā, destroyer of enemies, then wrought a great slaughter of daitya-s and dānava-s with his cakra.
अत्यंत ऊर्जावान कृष्ण, शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले, ने तब अपने चक्र से दैत्यों और दानवों का महान संहार किया।
Pierced by arrows and struck with the force of the cakra, many powerful ones were pacified, like waves that reach a shore.
बाणों से छेदकर और चक्र की शक्ति से मारकर अनेक शक्तिशाली लोग किनारे पर पहुँची हुई लहरों के समान शान्त हो गये।
Then Śākra, the great lord of the thirty gods, was angered. Riding a white elephant, he charged at them.
तब तीस देवताओं के महान स्वामी शक्र क्रोधित हुए। वह सफेद हाथी पर सवार होकर उन पर टूट पड़ा।
Grasping lightning, he hurled his vajra weapon with great force and the slayer of demons announced to the gods that the two had been killed.
बिजली को पकड़कर, उसने बड़ी ताकत से अपना वज्र हथियार फेंका और राक्षसों के हत्यारे ने देवताओं को घोषणा की कि वे दोनों मारे गए हैं।
On seeing that the king of the gods was about to hurl the great lightning, the gods grasped all their respective weapons —

Aryaman grasped a fearful parigha and walked around. Mitrā stood there, grasping a cakra that was as sharp as a razor.
आर्यमन ने एक भयभीत परिघा को पकड़ लिया और इधर-उधर चला गया। मित्रा वहाँ खड़ा था, एक चक्र को पकड़कर जो उस्तरे के समान तेज़ था।
O lord of the earth! Pūṣā, Bhaga and Savita grabbed bows and swords and rushed at Kṛṣṇā and Pārtha.
हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! पूषा, भग और सविता ने धनुष और तलवारें ले लीं और कृष्ण और पार्थ पर टूट पड़े।
The Rudra-s, the powerful Marut-s, the Viśvadeva-s, the Sādhya-s resplendent in their energy,
रुद्र-एस, शक्तिशाली मरुत-एस, विश्वदेव-एस, साध्य-अपनी ऊर्जा में देदीप्यमान,
and many other gods armed with diverse weapons advanced towards Kṛṣṇā and Pārtha, the best of men, in a desire to kill them.
तथा अन्य अनेक देवता विविध अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से सुसज्जित होकर नरश्रेष्ठ कृष्ण तथा पार्थ की ओर उन्हें मारने की इच्छा से आगे बढ़े।

O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! In that great battle, wonderful omens were witnessed, equal to those seen when all beings were exterminated at the end of a yuga.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उस महान युद्ध में, अद्भुत शकुन देखे गए, जो तब देखे गए थे जब एक युग के अंत में सभी प्राणी नष्ट हो गए थे।
The two Acyuta-s saw the angry Śākra and the assemblage of the other gods. Those fearless and invincible warriors stood there, their bows ready.
दोनों अच्युतों ने क्रोधित शक्र और अन्य देवताओं की सभा को देखा। वे निडर और अजेय योद्धा अपने धनुष तैयार किये वहाँ खड़े थे।
When they saw the gods advancing from every direction, they angrily repulsed them with arrows that were like the vajra.
जब उन्होंने देवताओं को हर दिशा से आगे बढ़ते देखा, तो उन्होंने क्रोधपूर्वक वज्र के समान बाणों से उन्हें खदेड़ दिया।
Repeatedly, the resolutions of the gods were shattered. In fear, they gave up the battle and sought refuge with Śākra.
बार-बार देवताओं के संकल्प टूटते रहे। डर के मारे उन्होंने युद्ध छोड़ दिया और शक्र की शरण ली।

On seeing the gods repulsed by Mādhava and Arjuna, the sages who dwell in heaven were astonished.
माधव और अर्जुन द्वारा देवताओं को तिरस्कृत देखकर स्वर्ग में रहने वाले ऋषि-मुनि आश्चर्यचकित हो गये।

Śākra was also extremely pleased at witnessing their constant prowess in battle and engaged in fighting them once again.
युद्ध में उनकी निरंतर वीरता को देखकर शक्र भी अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए और एक बार फिर उनसे लड़ने में लग गए।
In an attempt to question Savyasachi's valour, the chastiser of Pāka then cast down a gigantic shower of rocks. But intolerantly, Arjuna countered that shower.
सव्यसाची की वीरता पर प्रश्नचिह्न लगाने के प्रयास में, पाका को दंडित करने वाले ने चट्टानों की भारी वर्षा कर दी। परंतु अर्जुन ने असहिष्णुतापूर्वक उस वर्षा का प्रतिकार किया।
On seeing that his act was unsuccessful, Śatakratu, the king of the gods, increased the strength of his shower.
अपने कार्य को असफल होता देख देवताओं के राजा शतक्रतु ने अपनी वर्षा की शक्ति बढ़ा दी।
But the son of the chastiser of Pāka brought great pleasure to his father by destroying that shower of rocks with his swift arrows.
परंतु पाक को दंडित करने वाले पुत्र ने अपने तीव्र बाणों से चट्टानों की उस वर्षा को नष्ट करके अपने पिता को बहुत प्रसन्न किया।
Wishing to kill Pāṇḍu's son, Śākra then uprooted with his bare hands a giant peak of Mandāra, with all its trees, and flung it.
पांडु के पुत्र को मारने की इच्छा से, शक्र ने अपने नंगे हाथों से मंदार के एक विशाल शिखर को उसके सभी पेड़ों सहित उखाड़ दिया और उसे फेंक दिया।
But Arjuna immediately splintered that peak of the mountain into a thousand pieces with his swift and straight, fire-tipped arrows.
लेकिन अर्जुन ने तुरंत ही अपने तेज और सीधे, अग्नियुक्त बाणों से पर्वत के उस शिखर को एक हजार टुकड़ों में विभाजित कर दिया।
The sight of that mountain splintering was like that of the sky breaking, with the sun, the moon and the planets.
उस पर्वत के टूटने का दृश्य सूर्य, चंद्रमा और ग्रहों के साथ आकाश के टूटने जैसा था।
Pieces of that giant mountain fell on the forest and killed many beings who lived in Khāṇḍava.
उस विशाल पर्वत के टुकड़े जंगल में गिरे और खांडव में रहने वाले कई प्राणियों को मार डाला।
